This is how the Paella Contest is lived
All children are welcome!
ORIGIN OF PAELLA AND ITS TRADITION IN ENSENADA
Paella, originally from Valencia, Spain, is an emblematic dish of Spanish cuisine. Cooked in a wide pan called “paellera”, it combines rice with seafood, meat, vegetables and spices, with saffron standing out for its color and flavor.
History of Paella
Originating in the 19th century in the Valencian Community, paella began as a peasant dish made with fresh ingredients available, such as eels, snails and green beans. Over time, it diversified, incorporating seafood in coastal regions and meats inland.
Paella in Ensenada
The paella tradition came to Ensenada in the 1980s thanks to Dr. Ramón García Ocejo and his wife Ana María Mellado. What began as family gatherings became a formal event within the Fiestas de la Vendimia. The first official Paella Contest was held in 1990, consolidating as a tradition that celebrates the region’s gastronomy and wine.
